Osborne’s £30m Boost to Tipner Regeneration Plans

As part of the Autumn Budget Statement the Government has announced the approval of funding for a £30m new junction on the M275, allowing the start of the redevelopment of Tipner.

The regeneration of Tipner has been a topic that has been constantly debated by local councillors and residents in the city for almost the last thirty years.

Earlier this year, Craig Powell, Associate Director at Holloway Iliffe & Mitchell raised a question to MP Penny Mordaunt at the 1000 Lakeside Business Breakfast about the Governments plans to unlock the potential of this valuable waterside site adjoining Portsmouth Harbour.

At the time the funding had been shortlisted by ministers as one of a number of road schemes across the country that would assist the governments’ programme of regenerating brown field sites that are suitable for new commercial and residential development.

Portsmouth City Council will be providing £5m toward the cost with the government paying the remaining £25m.

Initial plans are for 1,600 new homes and 1,500 jobs on this gateway site to Portsea Island and Portsmouth City Centre.
